Juventus Reportedly Ready to Return for Alexis Sanchez After Having €34m Summer Bid Rejected

Italian giants Juventus are reportedly hoping to capitalise on the current state of confusion over a contract extension for Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez as they line up a move for the Chilean forward.

Sanchez has little more than eighteen months remaining on his current Gunners contract and Goal report that the 28-year-old is the ‘dream’ transfer target for the table-topping Turin outfit.

The report claims that Juve made a €34m bid for Sanchez before the start of the current season, but it is almost certain that Arsene Wenger rates his star man to be of much greater market value than that.

However, with Sanchez’s contract nearing its conclusion, Juventus may hope to capitalise on the Gunners’ weak bargaining position, aiming to secure the Chilean’s services for much less than he is actually worth.

The report also suggests that the Juventus hierarchy long to see Sanchez line up in a three-man frontline in Turin, behind Argentine striking sensations Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain in the Number 10 role.

The contract uncertainty stems from Sanchez’s belief that he deserves an increased weekly wage and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners will match the demands of the former Barcelona man.

It is believed that Arsenal have offered Alexis a contract worth around £180k per week and that Juve are willing to offer him double that amount in an attempt to turn the Chilean’s head.

Clinching major silverware this season would surely do the Gunners’ hopes of tying Sanchez down to an extended deal the world of good, but two consecutive defeats have seen Wenger’s side drop nine points behind rampant leaders Chelsea atop the Premier League table.

Sanchez set up Theo Walcott’s opening goal against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon before the Gunners suffered yet another collapse under the pressure of a big match.

The Gunners should have killed the game before half-time but put in a lifeless second half display which allowed City to win the match 2-1, thanks to goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling.
