Arsenal are monitoring an ongoing situation at Bundesliga side Bayern Munich as they look to make a surprise swoop to pick up one of the German side’s biggest names.
Star defender Jerome Boateng is said to be unhappy with current circumstances at the club and has demanded a sit-down to discuss his future.
The 28-year-old has been battling fitness issues all season, only appearing 11 times for the side. And according to TMW, he has made it clear to management that he wants to open discussions regarding his stay.
The report also claims that Arsenal are keeping close watch, as they would like to move in for the defender. But they will face lots of competition, with several clubs – including bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur – also quite keen on a capture.
The German international has four years left to run on his contract, but is obviously concerned about his lack of playing time.
Boateng is believed to be very upset at the fact that manager Carlo Ancelotti kept him benched for several important games.
Rather surprisingly, he wasn’t made to start Bayern’s crucial DFB-Pokal semi-final against Borussia Dortmund, and only came in when Mats Hummels suffered an injury around the 60th minute.
Given his status in the German national side, regaining his place as a regular status is imperative. And with 21-year-old Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule set to join Ancelotti’s squad in the summer, his position will be under an even bigger threat.
